Esta semana se hizo público el nombre del nuevo Director de la Academia Ecuatoriana de la Lengua, luego de la renuncia del doctor Carlos Joaquín Córdova, quien presentó hace poco la segunda edición de su El habla del Ecuador. Diccionario de Ecuatorianismos. Los miembros de número de esa institución, fundada en 1874, por unanimidad se eligieron al miembro de número más antiguo, Jorge Salvador Lara quien es, además, director honorario de la Academia Ecuatoriana de Historia.El doctor Salvador Lara se ha desempeñado como Canciller de la República en dos ocasiones (1966 y 1977), ha sido diputado de la República en varias ocasiones, profesor emérito de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador y ex presidente del Instituto Panamericano de Geografía e Historia.
