UYPRESSLa Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (UNESCO) presentó la nueva edición del Atlas de las lenguas del mundo en peligro de desaparición con el objetivo de concienciar a los gobernantes y a la población en general sobre la necesidad de salvaguardar la diversidad lingüística.El Atlas también tiene la intención de convertirse en un instrumento para darle seguimiento a las lenguas amenazadas y observar las tendencias de la variedad lingüística a nivel mundial.En el libro figura una lista de 2.500 lenguas —que incluye 220 extintas en los últimos 60 años— en riesgo de desaparecer, con el grado de peligro así como el país o países donde se habla.Con la nueva publicación, la UNESCO también presentó en línea una página interactiva de estadísticas del Atlas que contiene información actualizada sobre número de hablantes, políticas y proyectos relacionados y datos geográficos, entre otros aspectos.
