La aplicación para terminales Android Google Goggles recibió el jueves una actualización que permite traducir texto capturado con la cámara del teléfono. De este modo la llamada Goggles Translation o Traducción de Goggles se torna una opción ideal para aquellos turistas que viajan a países extranjeros y desconocen el idioma.El software está en pleno desarrollo y aún puede tener ciertas limitaciones, pero ya soporta cinco idiomas: inglés, italiano, francés, alemán y español. El primer prototipo de Google Goggles con traducción fue presentado a principios de este año en el Mobile World Congress de Barcelona y sólo podía reconocer texto en alemán, por lo que se trata de un gran avance. Hay que tener en cuenta que habrá que estar conectado a Internet para que realice su cometido.La nueva actualización (1.1) también ofrece características mejoradas de reconocimiento de códigos de barras, una base de datos de obras de arte más grande, el reconocimiento de muchos más productos y logotipos, una interfaz de usuario mejorada y la capacidad de iniciar búsquedas visuales con imágenes en la galería de fotos del teléfono. Se puede descargar ya desde el Android Market, disponible para la versión 1.6 y superiores.
