EFEUn informe elaborado por el Centro de Lingüísticas Aplicadas y financiado por el Departamento federal de Educación de EEUU señala que unas 1.600 escuelas públicas y privadas enseñan el idioma oficial chino, frente a 300 hace una década, señala el periódico.Entre las 27.500 escuelas de enseñanza Primaria y Secundaria en EEUU que ofrecen al menos un idioma extranjero, el 4 por ciento enseña mandarín, frente al 1 por ciento hasta 2008.El informe fue elaborado tras el envío de formularios a 5.000 escuelas con un índice de respuestas del 76 por ciento.La situación geográfica de las escuelas que ofrecen en EEUU la enseñanza del mandarín pasó de las zonas costeras al centro del país, incluidos Ohio, Illinois, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Utah, añadió.Expertos citados por el diario destacaron que, además del apoyo del Gobierno chino para impulsar la enseñanza del mandarín, padres y educadores se dan cuenta de la importancia en aumento de China y piensan que el conocimiento del idioma puede abrir oportunidades a las nuevas generaciones.Según el diario, en algunas escuelas de EEUU hay carteles en los que puede leerse: "Por favor, hable sólo en mandarín. Si tiene que hablar inglés, susurre".
