    Por favor solicito indicarme cuál es el diminutivo de cuy (es un animal parecido al ratón o al hámster). La requiero para saber cómo la incluyo en un cuento que está dirigido a niños de zonas rurales del Ecuador. Es cuisito, cuysito, cuycito, o cómo debería ir.

    Los diminutivos de monosílabos terminados en consonante se forman generalmente con los sufijos -cito, -ecito y sus variantes (-cillo, -ecillo, etc.): reyecito, pancito, solecillo, florecita, trencito. La terminación -cito es la predominante en América, de manera que en Ecuador para cuy la forma más natural sería cuycito. Note que *-sito no es ningún sufijo diminutivo. En tales casos, la s forma parte del sustantivo original y no del sufijo: dios > dios-ito.
