    "Al" es una contracción de preposición y artículo y no cumple ninguna otra función gramatical. Antiguamente hubo un pronombre determinado "ál" (con tilde) que significaba "otra cosa" y que hoy está en desuso, aunque continúa inexplicablemente presente en el Diccionario de la Academia.
