    Me gustaría saber qué significa la palabra Maqueda. Vivo muy cerca de un pueblo de la provincia de Toledo que se llama así y recientemente he estado en Palermo donde hay una calle (una de las más importantes de esta ciudad) que se llama de la misma manera.

    Corominas opina que  deriva del árabe y​ su raíz sería kyd;​ en este caso Maqueda ​provendría ​de Makîda​,​que significaría 'plaza fuerte', 'estratégica', 'astutamente construida'. ​Otros ​creen que se formó a partir de la raíz mkd, del árabe Maqqada, que significa 'estable', 'firme', 'fijo'.
