  • Hubo y hubieron

    Me eduqué usando «Hubo muchas personas», varios usan la segunda para señalar plural en circunstancias que es del subjuntivo.

    Las formas hubo y hubieron son flexiones del verbo haber del pretérito perfecto simple del modo indicativo no del subjuntivo.

    Como impersonal, el verbo haber se usa siempre en tercera persona del singular: Hay/hubo/había/habrá/ha habido... muchas personas en la concentración. De manera que decir *Hubieron muchas personas en la concentración es un error gramatical.

    Se usan todas las flexiones, singular y plural, cuando haber está empleado como verbo personal: No bien el jefe hubo resuelto los asuntos pendientes, salió del lugar sin despedirse de nadie.  Las autoridades hubieron de instalar numerosos campamentos para los damnificados. Apenas hubieron rehabilitado sus viviendas, los damnificados volvieron a sus hogares.

    Sería también incorrecto usar hubieron en lugar de hubieran o hubiesen (modo subjuntivo): Si hubieran o hubiesen llegado a tiempo, habrían visto a Juan. Es pues, un error decir:    *Si hubieron llegado a tiempo, habrían visto a Juan.
