  • Hacer efectivo

    En cuanto a «hacer efectivo» con el sentido de ‘cobrar’, ¿debe concordar en género y número con el objeto directo? Es decir, ¿debe decirse «hacer efectivo el cheque» y «hacer efectivas las recompensas»? ¿O siempre debe ser «hacer efectivo», independientemente del género y número del objeto directo?

    Nuestra respuesta:

    Existen muchas construcciones verbales cuya naturaleza gramatical sigue siendo objeto de discusión entre los lingüistas. Así, hacer efectivo se registra en el diccionario de la Academia como locución verbal, lo cual implica que los elementos que la integran permanecen fijos, formando una sola unidad léxica, y que, por lo tanto, el adjetivo efectivo es invariable cualquiera sea el complemento directo: hacer efectivo el cheque/los cheques/la recompensa/las recompensas. Otros consideran que en esa construcción efectivo es un complemento predicativo del complemento directo, y, por consiguiente, varía con este en género y número: hacer efectivo el cheque;  hacer efectivos los cheques; hacer efectiva la recompensa; hacer efectivas las recompensas. En la práctica, a excepción de dos casos, todos los encontrados en el Corpus de referencia del español actual (http://www.rae.es)  corresponden a esta última interpretación (hacer efecitvo/efectivos/efectiva/efectivas).
