    En el ámbito del fútbol, suelo escuchar locutores y comentaristas de dicho deporte referirse como error garrafal a un grave error. ¿Por qué garrafal?

    Garrafal se origina en el árabe harruba ‘fruto del algarrobo’ y se aplicó inicialmente a una fruta muy grande, del tipo de las guindas o cerezas. Luego a alguien se le ocurrió referirlo a los errores, faltas o mentiras muy grandes, que es hoy el significado más usado.
