    El verbo desdecir adquiere diferentes significados (ver Diccionario de la lengua española, en línea), siempre en sentido negativo o contrario a otro planteamiento, pero su uso será o no adecuado dependiendo del caso. Por ejemplo, sería adecuado decir: Desdigo tu propuesta (no me conviene, no estoy de acuerdo con tu propuesta); Los directores se desdicen hoy de lo que plantearon en días pasados (se retractan de); Hubo incluso algunos que, para sobrevivir, desdijeron de sus propias creencias (declinar su origen, educación o clase). No se utiliza, sin embargo, como simple verbo de negación: *Le pregunté si quería venir con nosotros a la excursión y me desdijo (me dijo que no).
