He observado que «colorado» se utiliza como sinónimo del color rojo. Quisiera saber su origen y de cuándo data su aceptación.

Respuesta: 

Proviene del latín colorātus, de colorāre ‘colorar’. Colorado aparece documentado desde antiguo (s. XV), tal como se puede apreciar en miles de documentos del Corpus Diacrónico del Español de la RAE. En cuanto a su registro en diccionarios, figura como sinónimo de rojo en el Tesoro de la lengua castellana o española de Santiago de Covarrubias de 1611 y en todos los diccionarios de la RAE desde el Diccionario de Autoridades de 1729.
