Leo en vuestra página: «Garage es un extranjerismo crudo que debe escribirse en cursiva. La adaptación gráfica al español es garaje». ¿Es posible saber por qué la g del francés pasó a j al españolizarse?

Respuesta: 

Porque el sufijo español es –aje y no *–age (garage se forma en francés por sufijación: gar-er + -age). Existen muy pocos sustantivos terminados en –age en español. Se pueden mencionar dos de origen griego: enálage e hipálage. Los demás, procedentes del inglés o del francés, de reciente aparición en nuestra lengua, se consideran extranjerismos crudos y se resaltan, por tanto, con la cursiva o cualquier otro diacrítico: vintage, average, cotagge, vernissage.
