Sensación de paz, calma y tranquilidad

Estado o situación de calma, armonía, quietud y apacible tranquilidad. El sosiego de la vida campestre. Veamos este fragmento de Camilo José Cela en su novela Cristo versus Arizona (1988, CREA):

es cierto que mascar tabaco da mucho sosiego al alma, también lo da el amor y el ejercicio de la caza en la llanura. 

La palabra proviene del verbo sosegar ‘experimentar un estado de armonía, paz y serenidad, o inducirlo en otra persona o animal’.

Este verbo está atestiguado en nuestra lengua en textos desde el siglo XIII, y ya a comienzos del siglo XIV aparece su derivado sosegar, que se formó a partir del romance hispánico sessegar, y este del latín vulgar sessicāre, del latín sessus, participio de sedēre ‘estar sentado’, ‘sentarse’, ‘asumir un cargo de autoridad’.
