Significado de 'supletivismo'.

Respuesta: 
Supletivismo designa la alternancia de bases léxicas distintas: hermano-fraternal; obispo-episcopal. Hay un número reducido de verbos que muestran supletivismo: ser (soy, era, fui...), ir (voy, iba, fui...). Es posible observarsupletivismoen la nominalización en casos en que la relación de la base y el término derivado se encuentra condicionada léxicamente (por etimología y diacronía). Por ejemplo: sarmiento proviene del latín sarmentus, y éste, a su vez, derivado del verbo sarpus.
