Consulta: 

Tengo dudas sobre si la construcción formada por el verbo «pretender + verbo en infinitivo» se puede considerar como una perífrasis verbal. Por ejemplo: No pretendía examinarla, sino hablar con ella.

Respuesta: 

No es una perífrasis verbal, ya que en las perífrasis verbales el verbo auxiliar pierde su significado original para contribuir a darle un significado nuevo a la construcción completa. En la locución «pretender + verbo en infinitivo», pretender (el verbo auxiliar) mantiene su significado natural de ‘querer conseguir algo’ (querer conseguir examinarla).
