Consulta: 

Estamos editando la obra de José de la Cuadra Los Sangurimas y nos surge la duda sobre el término montuvio con 'v' o montubio con 'b'. Hay quienes defienden una u otra ortografía por razones etimológicas: montuvio con 'v', de monte y vida, según unos, y monte y fluvio, según otros. Es como lo escribió José de la Cuadra y como lo hacían los autores de los años treinta. Montubio con 'b', de monte y bio.Es como recomienda la RAE, pero tampoco queremos hacer una versión españolista porque sí.

Respuesta: 

Ambas grafías, montubio y montuvio, se encuentran registradas en el Diccionario de americanismos (Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española, 2010) como válidas en Ecuador. Dado que ambas son adecuadas en ese país, consideramos que debe mantenerse la grafía con v en la edición de la obra, puesto que fue la utilizada originalmente por su autor.
