¿Es correcto utilizar la expresión «líquido elemento» para referirse al agua? Leo que, químicamente, el agua no es un elemento sino un compuesto. Existe un soneto de Góngora que utiliza la expresión y, en el contexto pienso: «Cuando leo ambas palabras, entiendo que se trata del agua y me doy por contento». Un argumento en contra que escuché: «Nadie dice 'igneo elemento' para referirse al fuego, ni 'sólido elemento' para referirse a la tierra, menos aún 'gaseoso elemento' para hablar del aire. Basta decir agua».

Respuesta: 

Ocurre que líquido elemento para referirse al agua es una expresión asentada en nuestro idioma y será registrada en la 23.ª edición del DRAE:líquido elemento.1. m. fest. agua (‖ líquido transparente). No hubo más bebida que EL líquido elemento.Los otros sintagmas citados no constituyen expresiones asentadas.
