Sigue siendo vigente la regla de separar en sìlabas distintas las vocales abiertas como el caso de la palabra: a-é-re-o o existe una nueva regla de uso.Me han contado que ya no se puede separar vocales solas.

Respuesta: 

No hay ningún cambio con relación a la separación en sílabas, dos vocales fuertes no forman diptongo. Probablemente, usted se confunde con la separación a final de línea: a) dos o más vocales seguidas no se separan a final de renglón y b) cuando la primera sílaba de una palabra es una vocal, esta no se dejará sola a final de renglón.
