¿Es diptongo o hiato? Para mí es diptongo porque se junta una vocal abierta con una cerrada es correcta esta afirmación.

Respuesta: 

El hiato es la separación en dos sílabas diferentes de dos vocales contiguas, una de las cuales debe ser 'i' o 'u'. Es lo que ocurre en país; si la vocal tónica fuera la a, habría un diptongo.
