¿Hay alguna regla gramatical que me obligue a usar las contracciones "del" en lugar "de el"? Por ejemplo: ¿Puedo decir el asiento "de el" carro? o ¿debo decir el asiento "del" carro?.

Respuesta: 

Debe hacer la contracción: el asiento del carro. Desde el punto de vista normativo es obligatorio hacer la contracción de las preposiciones de y a con el artículo el, salvo en los siguientes casos: 1. Si el artículo es parte de un nombre propio y se escribe con mayúscula (El viajero llegó a El Paso).2. Cuando el artículo es la primera palabra de una obra (Durrell es el autor de El cuarteto de Alejandría).3. Si coinciden dos secuencias consecutivas de preposición y artículo, la contracción se hará sólo en la segunda (Para realizar la operación consideraron el valor del terreno por debajo de el del habitual en la zona).Note que si el artículo corresponde a un apodo o sobrenombre se realiza la contracción (Nada le gustaría más que poseer un cuadro del Greco).
