Agradeciendo anticipadamente su respuesta, quisiera preguntar acerca de cuándo podemos usar las palabras veintiún y veintiuna. La duda nace a partir de que según un libro: «¿Cuántas chicas hay en tu clase?» «Hay veintiuna» / «Hay veintiún chicas». ¿Cuál es la respuesta correcta o si las dos son validas? Y p.ej., también: «Tengo treinta y una libras» o «Tengo treinta y un libras». Si las dos son correctas o no.

Respuesta: 

Los numerales terminados en uno/una concuerdan en género con el sustantivo al que preceden: «Hay veintiún / treinta y un / cuarenta y un... chicos en la clase»; «Hay veintiuna / treinta y una / cuarenta y una... chicas en la clase». Pero si mil se halla entre el numeral y un sustantivo femenino, la concordancia de género se puede hacer con una o un: «Hay veintiuna / veintiún mil chicas en la clase».
