¿Cómo deben ser utilizadas las siglas dobles, p.ej.: EE. UU.?

Respuesta: 

EE. UU. no es una sigla, sino el plural de una abreviatura. El plural de las abreviaturas formadas por una sola letra se obtiene duplicándola: EE. UU. (Estados Unidos); FF. AA. (Fuerzas Armadas); vv. aa. (varios autores); RR. HH. (Recursos Humanos); ss. (siguientes).
