¿Es correcto que, por ser plurales, palabras como Estados Unidos, Ciencias Sociales y Recursos Humanos, se abrevien EE.UU., CC. SS. y RR. HH., respectivamente. De ser así ¿es la única forma de abreviarlas? y ¿dónde se puede leer sobre esa regla gramatical?

Respuesta: 

Sí, es correcto. La abreviatura del plural mediante la duplicación de las letras es de un uso bastante antiguo. Sobre esta regla gramatical puede leer en línea en el apéndice del DPD correspondiente a Abreviatura.1, en el que se explica cómo se forman las abreviaturas. Los Estados Unidos de América se pueden abreviar además con la sigla: «EUA», que es el equivalente al «USA» norteamericano.
