Con cierta frecuencia he encontrado la palabra "supino -a" relacionada con una postura en términos médicos, sin embargo gracias a los mensajes recibidos de parte de "La palabra del día" la mencionan como sinónimo de ignorancia. Quisiera conocer la historia y/o etimología de dicho término. Gracias

Respuesta: 

El supino de que hablamos es una forma especial de infinitivo, generalmente terminada en tum que en latín indicaba finalidad: amatum = "para amar"; deletum = "para destruir". Este tiempo es llamado en latín supinum. La palabra a que usted se refiere proviene en cambio del latín supinus y significa en español "acostado sobre la espalda" y también "necio", "falto de razón". Ambas palabras latinas se originaron en la raíz prehistórica indoeuropea upo (bajo, por debajo).
