Estimados senores,Quisiera saber si la frase siguiente es correcta: no comen sino que llaman por teléfono. Preciso que hablo de personas que estan en un restaurante y que quiero oponer claramente las dos proposiciones.Muchas gracias por su ayuda.

Respuesta: 

Sí, es correcta. La conjunción adversativa «sino» contrapone dos conceptos indicando que el segundo se realiza en lugar del primero, el cual ha sido necesariamente negado con anterioridad inmediata al segundo. Si no hay negación, no se puede usar «sino que»: «*Salimos muy tarde, sino que llegamos a tiempo».
