¿Cuál es la etimología de adolescencia?

Hola:Proviene del lat. adolescentia ,derivado a su vez del lat. "adolescens, -ntis",( joven), participio en su origen del verbo "adolesco, adultus", (crecer), por lo que la voz significaría inicialmente "que crece", de la misma forma que su participio pasado "adultus" equivale a "que ha crecido". La raiz es el verbo latino "alo, álere" alimentar, con el prefijo ad- y el sufijo verbal -esco. Es de notar que en latín clásico "adolescens" (o "adulescens") designa mozos que pueden pasar de los 20 años. La aplicación de la voz a los quinceañeros es relativamente nueva. Hasta el S. XVIII se empleaba casi únicamente la expresión "edad adolescente". Saludos,El equipo de consultas
