La Fundación del Español Urgente (FundéuRAE) ha seleccionado sus doce candidatas a palabra del año 2024, entre las que están 'gordofobia', 'dana', 'mena', 'pellet', 'narcolancha' o 'woke'.

Así, completan la lista de las doce candidatas las palabras 'alucinación', 'fango', 'inquiokupa', 'micropiso', 'reduflación' y 'turistificación', todas ellas relacionadas con temas de vivienda, tecnología, turismo y medioambiente.

Como cada año, las voces seleccionadas por la Fundación cumplen dos requisitos. Por un lado, son palabras que han aparecido con especial frecuencia en los medios de comunicación y en el debate social en los últimos doce meses, mientras que por otro lado, se intenta que todas las candidatas tengan algún interés desde el punto de vista lingüístico, que generen dudas entre los hablantes, que hayan adquirido un significado nuevo o que se hayan formado de una manera poco habitual.

Las anteriores ganadoras fueron 'escrache' (2013), 'selfi' (2014), 'refugiado' (2015), 'populismo' (2016), 'aporofobia' (2017), 'microplástico' (2018), los 'emojis' (2019), 'confinamiento' (2020), 'vacuna' (2021), 'inteligencia artificial' (2022) y 'polarización' (2023). La palabra del año de este 2024 se conocerá el próximo jueves 19 de diciembre.
