Procede del verbo latino «respondere», que significa 'responder'. Algunas formasverbales del verbo latino dieron origen a varios vocablos españoles afines: responso/responsar, responder/respuesta, respondón, responsable...El vocablo «responsable» aparece recogido por primera vez en el Diccionario de Autoridades de 1737 y descrito así literalmente:RESPONSABLE. adj. de una term. El que está obligado à responder, ò satisfacer por algun cargo. Es voz introducida modernamente.Años después, en el Diccionario de la Real Academia de 1803 se incluye por primera vez el sustantivo «responsabilidad» con esta definición:RESPONSABILIDAD. s. f. La obligacion de reparar y satisfacer por sí, ó por otro qualquier pérdida o daño.
