Deseo saber con qué letra deben escribirse los diminutivos. P. ej.: madre, madrecita o madresita; té, tecito o tesito; calle, callecita o callesita. ¿Hay que orientarse por el plural?

Respuesta: 
Los diminutivos se construyen sobre el singular. El sufijo diminutivo es -ito, que en algunas palabras puede requerir la adición de un interfijo c o ec-, dando -cito/-ecito, pero nunca sito: madrecita, tecito, callecita.
