Entiendo que lo correcto es decir «un jarabe contra la tos», sin embargo me pregunto si también puede decirse «un jarabe para la tos» sin incurrir en un error gramatical.

Respuesta: 

No existe error gramatical en la expresión un jarabe para la tos, puesto que la preposición para, según una de sus acepciones, se usa ‘para determinar el uso que conviene o puede darse a algo’. Por otro lado, cabe la interpetación de un verbo elidido: un jarabe para [combatir, curar, calmar...] la tos.
