Me gustaría saber cuál es la diferencia entre las palabras ícono-icono, cóctel-coctel, fútbol-futbol y vídeo-video.Agradezco de antemno su atención

Respuesta: 

Cada grafía responde a la forma en que el hablante pronuncia la palabra, no hay diferencia de significado. Ícono es empleado en América, mientras que en España se usa preferentemente 'icono'. Algo parecido, aunque a la inversa, ocurre con vídeo -más usado en España- y video, preferido en América. Cóctel es de preferencia en España y algunos países latinoamericanos, mientras que en otros se emplea coctel. Fútbol siempre lleva tilde.
