Existe su plural para el metalenguaje: es decir, se usa el plural de los números cuando estamos hablando de ellos, no cuando acompañan una palabra que va en plural. «Son siete naranjas», «Las chicas llegarán enseguida; pongamos la mesa para ocho, porque somos ocho, ¿verdad?» «Póngame doce chicles de fresa y cuatro de menta; ah, y dos de frambuesa»; «Pon tres doses y tres ceros, muy bien, así: ahora ya tienes escrito el número dos cientos veintidós mil. ¿Ves como no era tan difícil?» «Ceros y unos, eso es lo que hablan las máquinas».
