El gerenuc, elegante gacela africana

Gacela jirafa africana, también llamada “gacela de Waller” (Litocranius walleri), es una especie de mamífero artiodáctilo de la familia Bovidae, de aspecto muy elegante, con su cuello largo y cabeza de líneas delicadas, que habita el este de África.

Gerenuc significa “cuello de jirafa” en la lengua somalí. También es llamada swala twiga ‘gacela jirafa’ en suajili. A pesar de que normalmente es tímido, este animal puede ser visto en la Reserva Nacional de Samburu, en Kenia, así como en varias regiones semiáridas del África oriental, en Tanzania, Somalia y Etiopía.
