Respuesta: 

Para formar las abreviaturas de nombres en plural, se escribe cada inicial del nombre dos veces, seguida de un punto y separada de la siguiente por un espacio. Por lo tanto, en la abreviatura del nombre de Estados Unidos solo deben aparecer dos puntos y no cuatro (EE. UU.). Otros ejemplos VV. AA. (varios autores), FF. AA. (Fuerzas Armadas), ss. (siguientes), SS. MM. (Sus Majestades).
