Dudas de su uso en plural, las basuras, lo he visto así en el noticiero y me ha llamado la atención.

Respuesta: 

Se trata de un sustantivo común, el cual es perfectamente pluralizable. Basuras puede referirse, por ejemplo, a los diferentes tipos de desechos (papel, orgánicos, vidrio, latas...) que se producen en un lugar determinado.
